So Here’s the Deal

April called me and said “I’ve got an idea. I want to run a business venture past you and see what you think.”

Oh. Well. Uhm. Ok?

And so begins our little adventure.

Little did she know that it was an idea that I had been mulling over for a while too. In fact, I’d tentatively, quietly, with much anxiety, spent hours agonizing over a name and a logo for it. {I’m *obviously* not the tech savvy one in our duo.}

She said, “I want to do an event business. Where we go to people’s homes and provide all the supplies and instruction for a project, and teach them how to make and complete it!”

My heart pounded a bit. Because that’s almost exactly the same concept that I’d hestiantly pitched to my husband a bit ago. Except, mine was filled with more “I don’t know” and “not sure it would work” and “scared to put myself out there where I might be rejected” kind of language.

But that’s one of the things I love most about April. She’s a go getter. She’s the one with the 5 year plan that includes things that make my stomach hurt, like a business plan, and a brick and mortar. And online business, and credit card reader, and tax ID numbers, and other “business-y” terms that make my eyes glaze over.

Three weeks later, we held our first event.  We set up tables in my “cozy” kitchen, and invited the specific people who would love us enough to give us an honest opinion of our idea, and had our very first official workshop.

It was a bit rough. I’m not going to lie.  We stumbled over our words, we scrambled a little bit, we were over budget on the food.  But when it was all said and done, and we sat in my living room, we looked at each other and laughed.

Because we did it! We didn’t fail. We didn’t get laughed out of my own kitchen. We tried it, and we liked it, and our guests appreciated our efforts and the way we made them feel special and crafty and accomplished for that evening.

So, we are excited {and crazy nervous} about this business venture. We’re looking forward to learning more about how to make our guests feel cherished and how to show them that the evening is all about them and their abilities to make something handmade. And we’re excited to share our love of teaching, and hospitality and fun projects with friends who want to come hang out with us for an hour or so.
